Two forts were established on the land that is now Fort Davis National Historic Site, serving as both military outposts and refuges for locals from the time between 1854 and 1891. Today, five structures at the site have been restored and decorated as they would have been in the 1880s and there are many other buildings that now stand in ruins. During the summer, park guides in period dress explain the history behind the fort and lead various programs and activities for visitors to take part in. The site also has hiking trails that lead out into the Davis Mountain State Park and sits just north of the town of Fort Davis, located in the western portion of the state.
Open daily 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Entry fee (7 day pass): Adults $3; Children 15 and under are free.
